26 Aug STRESS PART 2
Community helps stress
Interestingly, a large group of people migrated from a town called Rosseto in Italy to New York.
Here they created a mini Rosseto. What was curious about them was that they were happy, had
no peptic ulcers, no bowel disease, hardly any heart disease, no suicide and no drug addiction. A
lot of them were obese and didn’t have good diets. Their health success came from a powerful
and supportive social structure that cared about their people.
In “Risk Factor for Serious Illness” Vanitallie says, “In modern society, which is characterised
by a rapid pace of life, high demands, efficiency and competitiveness in a global economy, it
is likely that lack of rest, recovery and restitution is a greater health problem than the absolute
level of stress.”
Those that have regular relaxation in their life have less impact on their health when sudden
shocks hit them.
